Suspected by his friends of killing an elderly lady, Councillor Amos Cotswold is targeted by a greedy developer who, seeking to discredit him, reports Amos for pressurizing old folk. This accusation threatens Amos’s position and hence the villagers who depend on his protection. Ragged, muddy and frequently accompanied by his pot-bellied pig, Amos has always eschewed both outward appearances and party politics in favour of what is right. Now this highly regarded soul is the vulnerable one.

 

When his plight is exacerbated by the painfully resurrected memory of a young woman who disappeared forty years ago, three attempts on his life, a run-in with organised car crime and an ambivalent relationship with the local gypsies; Amos is forced to discover the link.
